In the SCA, Aibhilin kennari fra Skye, is a women living on Skye during the 9th Century. She spends most of her time cooking and playing with her kids and other children. She learned to cook under the guiding hand of her laurel Mistress Tamarra Amalthea of Romany and by experimenting on her friends.

Ann Graham owns Silver Writing, which offers technical writing and editing services to both the high tech and manufacturing businesses in the Ottawa area. In DARC, she is known as Thora, a farm girl who moved to Jorvik with her husband. After he became too ill to work, she took over his stone and bone carving business. In the SCA, Anne le Gris was born in 1452 at Wilton House in Somerset. After spending her formative years in Paris, she now lives with her artist husband in Venice. She fills her days with managing his atelier. Among other SCA projects, Anne is currently studying modal music composition.

Brian McIlmoyle began his study of fencing in his youth, participating in historical recreation activities of the Medieval era. Brian learned to fence while in university practicing with the university fencing club where he focused on the saber. Finding modern fencing to be missing an air of combativeness, he refocused his practice to the study of medieval swordsmanship. Getting his hands on a copy of George Silvers 'Paradoxes of Defense' in the mid 90s proved a turning point where Brian began basing his study and practice on extant historical sources. In the late 90s, Brain co-founded the Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts (AEMMA) with David Cevt. Brian now serves as the Academy’s principal instructor and curriculum developer, although he prefers to remain in Toronto teaching AEMMA’s students at the Toronto Salle De Armes.
Brian has traveled extensively providing instruction in fencing according to the AEMMA interpretation of Fiore Dei Liberi’s Flos Duellatorum and Fior di Bataglia. The AEMMA 'Armizare' program is based primarily on the Liberi sources with supporting research from related texts within the 'Italian' tradition. Brian is a professionally trained instructor, receiving his education in instruction in the Canadian Armed Forces where he served as an Infantry Officer and recruit instructor over a decade of military service. He is an acknowledged instructor within the International Masters at Arms Federation (IMAF) and is deeply devoted to bringing Europe’s 'lost' fighting arts back into the public consciousness. He has also designed and delivered several educational programs at the Royal Ontario Museum on topics such as medieval arms and armour, medieval justice and most recently medieval swordsmanship.

She divides her time between her homes in Venice and The Royale Citie Of Eoforwic.

Caitrin Ollerhead DeSantis is a Surgical nurse at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph and an impassioned student of the reign of England's Henry VIII. Caitrin is also an active member of a 19th century artillery gun crew and participates in living history events in Canada, the United States, and England. She is also a member of the Richard the Third Society and the American Civil War Historical Re-enactment Society. Caitrin and her husband Alfredo have recently moved to a farm built in 1853 just outside Fergus where she lives with various horses and other critters. Tangwystl d'Courci is a Viscountess Ealdormere, Countessa Midrealm, Mistress of the Laurel and a founding member of the Tudor Rose Group. Tangwystl lives in the England of the 1530's before the real impact of the King's great matter and the dissolution of the monasties was felt.

In Regia, Magnus Kjrr-Thorgierson is a 9th Century Anglo-Saxon who resides in Mercia during the reign of Alfred the Great. A soldier in the Fyrd and hunter, he has been known to dabble in a great many crafts in his "spare" time.

Christine Olliffe is a stay-at-home mom to two daughters, born in 1997, and 2002. Lady Dwynwen was born and raised in Wales, but found that life there was not all she wished. She left home at a young age and traveled to the fair lands of Ealdormere where she made her home in the Barony of Septentria where she helped to found the incipient Canton of Greenhithe. While traveling in the shires of Ealdormere, far from her home she met Lord Angus MacDonnell, whom she did marry. They moved from Septentria to the lands of the Barony of Ramshaven.

While the sixteenth century is untenable to Osa, the future holds the curiosities of embroidary, pewter, and Flemish garb.

Darrell Markewitz has worked as a consultant to major museums in the field of Living History. His major achievents include the creation of the 'Norse Encampment' for Parks Canada and the 'World of the Norse' for the Cranbrook Institute of Science. Darrell has worked on the Smithsonian's 'Vikings - North Atlantic Saga' and the Newfoundland Museum's 'Full Circle - First Contact'. He is a co-founder of the Dark Ages Re-creation Company. A professional blacksmith, he operates the Wareham Forge. In DARC, Darrell is known as Ketill Einarsson. Ketill, like many young Norse men from Norway, went 'a viking', and was involved in the battles in Ireland. He was fascinated with the work of the weapons smiths, and learned how to work iron, spending more and more time in the forge - and less and less on the battlefield. In his middle age, he decided to settle near Dubhlin with his wife Bera, spending his hard earned silver on a small farmstead. He now balances his work as a blacksmith with seasonal trading voyages to Jorvick and Birka.

David Porreca joins the classical studies department after completing a PhD(2001) at the Warburg Institute, University of London, UK, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he was appointed an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Religion and Culture. Porreca began his academic career at UW, earning a BA in Medieval Studies; he received an MA from the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto. His research interests include the heritage of the classical tradition; influence of writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus on the Middle Ages; ancient and medieval esoterica: medieval philosophy and theology. He is teaching Latin language courses and courses on Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Porreca received a SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and Postdoctoral Fellowship, and is currently co-investigator for a UW LT3 Learning Initiatives Fund project on Digital Teaching and Learning for Classical Studies. Outside of work, he spends time raising his dear daughter, Maya; studying issues of worldwide resource depletion in order to establish a basis for local sustainable living with a minimal ecological footprint; board/card games.

Her father felt it was important she know how to read, so she was tutored by monks from Kelso Abbey on the other side of the Teviot River.

David Clarke, known in the SCA as Foote the Potter, is a professional potter and sculptor with extensive practical knowledge which includes the sculpting of life size dinosaurs for museums. His interests include the building of wood frame structures and a special interest in Anglo-Saxon history. He is a retired visual arts teacher and continues to run his own pottery studio.

Gary Snyder is a Kitchener grandfather working for Ontario Hydro and has been with the SCA for many many years. Garwig der Waffenschmidt was born in Sussex, England just before the turn of the 10th century.   Orphaned in his fourth year he was apprenticed to a local smith from whom he learned the basics of metalworking.   Caught up by a call to battle from the local thegn, he perforce learned the art of repair and manufacture of armour - specifically chainmail.   For his skill he soon acquired the title of "der waffenschmidt" - weapon or armour smith.

However, she has recently made a Tudor gown and is now dabbling with the likes of King Henry VIII in the 1500s.

Jerry Penner is a 38 year-old self-employed electronic design engineer specializing in the development of custom products for resale by local companies. He knits and sells chain mail in several local shops and via his website at http://www.chainmailguy.com . In his spare time he plays with things that go BANG and THUD. Gierhaerdt of Hildeschiem is a local chain-mail knitter. Weekdays he can be found in his shop building or repairing link armour for the pagans, and sabotaging armour for the Christians. Weekends he can be found drinking his profits in nearby Einbeck, where Bock beer will be invented 100 years after he dies. His hobbies include middle-eastern drumming, reading Germanic runes, and playing with things that go BANG and THUD.

Jo Duke started medieval recreation about 14 years ago, and started weaving narrow wares (inkle & tablet) soon after. She first learnt the craft of the dyer at the Kentwell Historical Recreations 11 years ago. She has been a member of the Sudbury Weavers Guild about 8 years but only recently acquired her own modern 4 harness floor loom. Jorunn joined the crew of the DARC longship for their voyage to Norstead some three summers hence. She took her loom on board, but the distractions were great and the seas rough so took nearly a year to weave one sleazy Saxon headrail.

Karen Peterson is a library clerk at the University of Waterloo, deeply bored by her day job except for the opportunities it provides to further her research efforts. Karen has demonstrated various parts of the textile process at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Haffenrefer Museum at Brown University in Rhode Island and at the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Detroit, Michigan. In DARC, Karen is known as Kaðlín Ragnarsambatt. Kaðlín was a small town girl living on the shores of Scotland in the mid 800s when Vikings raided the nearby Church at Iona and stole some of the women folk away. She was promptly renamed by her Viking captor, Ragnarr, who says he can't pronounce "that pig grunt language the Scots use" anyway. She now lives with Ragnarr in Iceland as his ambatt (personal body slave).

In the recent couple of years a rabid anthropology researcher has emerged from under all those piles of fabric. In the SCA, Caitlín inghean Tomáis uí Duibhir is a widowed Tipperary, Ireland cattle woman circa 1580. Just because Kathy has a compulsion to never do anything simply, she has a second persona - Signorina Salvatrice D'este, Honorate Cortigiane e Veleno, a noble courtesan born and raised in Venice, currently residing in Verona in the period surrounding 1575.

Laurie Woodward is a free-lance graphic designer and a stable hand at a horse ranch. Forty this year, Laurie has a ten year old son, whom she adores, and has been happily married for sixteen years. Aside from her many pursuits in the SCA she is also a published poet, an accomplished folk artist, and is currently re-discovering a passion for research. In the SCA, Naja Kesali Orekhov is a Rom raised in Ivan the III's Moscow. A widowed mother of eight children with many grandchildren Naja went wandering in search of her lost kumpania at the ripe old age of 33. She makes her home in Ealdormere now, where she can be seen doing illumination, archery, gaming, and feeding lunch to the masses among other things. She is currently Chronicler for the Barony of Septentria and always looking for contributions to the Ursus.

In the SCA, Master Rufus of Stamford is a Saxon born in 1098 in the village of Stamford, with a great many hobbies and interests to keep himself busy.  Some of these hobbies include tablet weaving, archery, leather work (primarily bottles), choral singing, and playing the harp.

Russ Sheldon is a computer technician and and has also gone back to university part-time to further his education. His hobbies are to numerous to mention but his one great love is anything dealing with archery, modern or historical. Within the SCA, he is Dafydd ap Sion, a Welsh bowman in the army of Edward the III. A ludicrous bowman within the Society and the current Kingdom Archery Marshal for Ealdormere.

Sarah Hughes makes her living doing Account Management, Project Coordination and Graphics Management in a variety of fields. In REGIA, Gudrun is a Norse woman living in 10th C York. In the SCA, Sarah is known as Gaerwen of Trafford who is a woman of Welsh descent living in the time of the Dane Law. Due to her perverse nature and interest in her neighbours she has taken to wearing Norse dress so that, amidst other reasons, she may display her great wealth at every opportunity. Her love of fibre arts has her pursuing spinning, cardweaving, needlework and embroidery though she has yet to get the knack of naalbinding.

Stephanie E. Nyhof-Demoor is currently working on an MA in Education at Goddard College. Her thesis is focused on how Living History enhances Histoy Education. She intends to graduate in July and will possibly follow up this MA with further studies towards an MA in Museum Studies, Information Studies, or Medieval Studies. She hasn't decided yet. Stephanie currently resides in Eoforwic and holds the position of Children's Minister and Librarian, and was formerly the Chronicler. In the SCA, Gwerydd verch Llwelyn is a 16th century Welsh woman from Gwynedd currently running a farm left her by her deceased husband in the Welsh Marches.

Sue Corbishley is a currently unemployed technical support professional, looking for a change in career. Her interests are reading, pre 19th century music, research into historical cooking and textiles, and participating in 19th and 18th Century re-enactment and the SCA. She lives in Peterborough with another computer person who doesn't live in the modern age and two cats who run her life. In the SCA, Anne Tinker is a confused traveller, who seems to have difficulty managing to stay in one time or place.


Susan Carroll-Clark is a project manager and business analyst for a large US-based bank, and is the former editor of the SCA's quarterly magazine, Tournaments Illuminated . She also has a PhD in medieval history from the University of Toronto and works as an independent scholar of medieval popular religion and clothing. She lives in Ajax with her husband and three cats. In the SCA, Nicolaa de Bracton is a 13th century Englishwoman, the daughter of a minor knight in the service of Simon de Montfort. Her husband is a wealthy cloth merchant, and they have holdings in Leicester and on the newly-fashionable shops on London Bridge and are embroiled in City politics.

Tim Jennings is the Managing Director of Roseneath Theatre,Ontario's largest professional (Equity) touring theatre company(www.roseneath.ca). He has taught Theatre Production and Arts Managementat several Universities and Colleges and has worked continuously in theperforming arts for over 20 years. He resides in Fergus Ontario withTruly Carmichael and her son. They make beautiful music together.Garraed Galbraith is an 11th century Court Bard from the Isle of Gigha(West Scotland) where he is the clan (figure)head of a large household.He has reached the rank of Ollagh (or 'Teacher') within the brehon castesystem and has recently been seen in the company of a progressive Normanlady of rank.

Tina Gaston works when she must but prefers to spend her days stitching at one thing or another. In the SCA, Tina is known as Lady Cairean ingen Fiachnae who was born into a matiarcal irish family in the late 1200's, she was raised there until her mothers death at age 8 when her father returned to his homeland of England. There Cairean was taught to manage a household and married at 17 to an aging lord. At 21, upon her husband's death she returned to Ireland to her mother's people where one of her husband's servants introduced her to his son. They fell in love, and had 2 beautiful little girls. Lady Cairean and her family then, a little over a year ago, moved to the Kingdom of Ealdormere.

Truly Carmichael received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Costuming in 1997 from the University of Texas At Austin. She has workedas a costumer around the US at such venues as the Oregon ShakespeareFestival, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, and theAlley Theatre in Houston. For the last five years she has been employedas a technical writer for various technology companies including HewlettPackard and Compaq. She is a trained singer and musician, and writesmuch of the music and poetry that she performs.Eleanor Fairchild is the Daughter of a sixteenth century English Baron.She was well trained in literature, poetry and music and other artsappropriate to a lady of good family. She has recently been seenparading around in 12th century Norman attire, which perplexes herfather greatly, but he sees no real harm in it and has not forbidden herlatest fashion whim.

Valerie West is a second hand clothing store manager for the YWCA in Peterborough. Mahhild de Valognes is a 10th century Norman and has been amember of the SCA for 4 years. Her interests are varied and include chain mail, archery, sewing, tablet weaving and embroidery.

Vandy Simpson has brought her years of research and practise in the culinary and textile arts to several museum re-enactments, and continues to provide costuming for the Viking Age interpretive program in L'Anse aux Meadows, Nfld. In DARC, Vandy is known as Bera. Bera lives in the recently founded city of Dublin with her husband, Ketil. Together, they occassionally join a group that travels widely in search of trade goods. Bera is a skilled and popular cook with the trading crew, and fills her spare time with making cloth and clothing.
