Drink of the Month - Spiced Hot drinks

Well since winter is here quite visbaly here are a few drinks to warm you up.

In a large suacepan, combine all ingredients. Simmer over low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Simmer for an additional 15 minutes. Remove cloves and cinnamon sitcks. Serve warm in mugs, or cups. 12 (1/2 cup) servings.

Heat pineapple juice, water, brown sugar, orange peel, orange juice, cloves, cinnamon stick, allspice and salt to boiling in 4-quart Dutch oven, stirring occasionally; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 15 min. Remove spices and orange peel; stir in wine. Heat just until hot (do not boil). Serve in mugs or heatproof glasses garnished with orange slice and cinnamon stick if desired. NOTE: Hot spiced wine can be covered and refrigerated no longer than 1 week. Just before serving, heat just until hot (do not boil).

Mulled Claret:
Into a metal mug put:
Heat poker red hot and hold in liquid until boiling and serve; or warm on a stove.

Boil water with lemon slices, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar for 5 min.
Strain and mix with wine and fruit juices. Serve hot. Serves 8.

None of these recipies are particularly period I admit but they do help beat the cold. Next month I will do either Glogg (a sweedish drink which starts a fire inside you) or some mulled /spiced ciders. Depending on what people ask for.

See you next month.
